It's not that they felt the technology was going to used against them directly, only that they would be left behind, There are so many episodes of stargate and star trek etc etc that go into this same MEME. People want knowledge. Like the GEDDI wanting to know how to build plastic explosives in stargate - but they are not ready for it - they are like IRAN maybe - they will probably use it to blow lots of stuff up and probably even themselves - hehe. It like giving a loaded weapon to dick cheney - innocents get hurt! :( and it didn't matter that they were better off with the technology only that they felt the gap between rich and poor would widen Right, they don't look at the big picture - are they ready for it as a people - do they have the wisdom to not USE it for EVIL - there was an old SCIFI movie with the comedian leslie nielsin FORBIDDEN PLANET - maybe you should give these people a showing of that movie on your laptop. images.google.com Mankinds emotions made him not capable of using the knowledge in good ways. Captain nemo thought the same thing. - whether or not that was true or not (there is ample reason to believe that by lowering the cost of information, computers and the internet would reduce the gap). I pointed out to these students that by restricting the use of computers and the internet to equal access locations, they were actually penalizing those individuals who placed a high value on their time, but that seemed to be ok with them Crazy!
