So what would an Allen presidency be like compared to McCain or Bush?

Hard to tell. My guess is that McCain would slow the galloping-to-the-right, let's-energize-the-base Republican party bit; whereas Allen would keep the velocity of the changes in place.

Whereas I think Allen is the candidate of the base, I don't see how he can be elected. He loses to almost any Dem candidate I can imagine.

McCain, Hagel, and Guiliani are clearly more electable in the general election.
