You seem to have a very lopsided view of history!

Much has been made of the aid given by the US to European countries after WWII, and the French (slangily referred to as "frogs") have often been singled out as ingrates. But, the ugly truth is that the US did not give aid for purely altruistic reasons. There were "strings" attached such as obligatory US military presence and US political influence in the country aided.

The US gave aid to European countries because, immediately after WWII, the Cold War has begun, and the US felt herself threatened by the Communist expansionism of the Soviet Union. So, in order to cover her ass, the US felt the need for European allies to stem the onslaught of Communism. So morbid was the fear of the US that even nobody countries like Italy, Greece and Albania, and Lebanon (and Syria albeit temporarily) were strong-armed and bribed into the becoming members of the Free World despite the fact that the Soviets never made their presence felt in those countries. (They couldn't as they were much weakened by WWII.)

You may read up on this in William Blum's book, "Killing Hope". Go to amazon.com and read the reviews on this book. If your city library does not have a copy of this book, I am sure the librarian will oblige you by ordering a copy rightaway. Ask and you shall receive!
