Oh, I see, just because I didn't answer your multiple choice question, I am just posturing...

The price of gasoline isn't the relevant question. That is like looking at the end of someone's finger when they point at something. The relevant question is how do we diversify our energy needs? Oil is probably better used as feedstock and not energy. It would have been a lot better if we had continued the transition we started under Carter, but that is water under the bridge at this point.

So what can we do? That question has two components, technological and political. The technological one is pretty easy. More nuclear plants, even fast breeders, conservation measures, R&D on hydrogen storage. If we can figure out how to inexpensively regenerate sodium borohydride, we are there. Politically, none of these things will be done. It just isn't the cards. So we will just wait around until the economy tanks or we get political leaders who take the problem seriously.
