well windows vs. google aside, I remember when I worked in technology (now I am still in tech but just the business side)- I was once a developer and architect and practically every implementation had these blob files (binary large object for the tech challenged) and there was no way to index them, you couldn't store them in a db, no way to see inside the file. All you could really do was "tag" them with some text comments, just like you need to do with your MP3s. Hopefully search fixes this issue. Media files should be searchable just like text. I should be able to search on a byline in a song and search should find it for me. Same with comments in a video. Tivo is on the forefront of this but there is a long way to go.
