Small planes became popular on ranches and large farms in the US and Canada in the 1940s. By the fifties they were widely used. Sky King was the first show to feature the NEW west. Rustlers used trucks and our hero tracked them down by plane. I guess a modern western would show cowboys riding Toyota pick-ups and ATV's and have semi-automatics in their holsters. You'd hate it! Girls like horses.
