While salt water might be useful in coastal cities, I think it might be expensive to pipe sea water to say Las Vegas, disposal is also a problem, removal of salt from the wastewater would be terribly expensive, I doubt that Mexico wants that much salt in the Colorado River. We do have a treaty guaranteeing that we give them a certain level of water quality you know.

It would be even more ridiculous to consider piping sea water to places like Denver, or Dallas, or Chicago.

Delivery of 2 water systems to all homes and businesses in a coastal city like Los Angeles would also be exorbitantly expensive, dual plumbing of homes also make the idea of salt water to flush toilets unpractical.

However composting toilets are a possible practical alternative to fresh water flush toilets, and you can use the waste product as fertilizer on your flower bed.

Maybe an issue with the chemical to disinfect (you mean vacuum right ) ? or no chemical and possibly lots more cleaning.. Low flush water toilets today take multiple flushes often.. :o) In the GTA we pay for our water.. been like that since I moved here.. 27 years ... so we are aware.. I put in underground sprinkler with rain sensor to use garden water more effectively.. saves lots of dough... no more cursing next morning because I fell asleep with sprinkler on :O) did it years ago...

BTW Conservation ? we have smart metres here for electricity consumption... guess what.. so many people were diligent and used off peak that the rates are going up a lot more for those on smart metres than those not yet abonné... lower prices at first .. and then raise them and have more dough for the chairmans pension :o(

Oh also seawater no go here.. even salt water swimming pools are possibly on hit list.. they adversely affect the eco system... OR need to have desalinization added to treatment plants ?... no way that...

of course seawater not a good option so far inland anyway.. but any chance of fresh water contamination would be blocked..

no salting the Great Lakes please :O)
