Edit: And if it's what it sounds like, a genuine lightweight VM approach on a highly concurrent multicore system that lets the user run just plain Linux rather than some abominable hybrid from hell, sounds like a much better way to go, at least to me.

Assuming Sun's VM software is real enough to become a product in the near future.

The Wall Street Journal reports Sun Microsystems (SUNW) is moving to encourage use of the Linux operating system on its newest computer line, the latest in a series of moves to take Sun's machines to a broader audience. The co today is announcing that it will provide technical information that can help programmers adapt Linux or other operating systems for a new line of servers that use Sun's Sparc chips. Sun's move signals a greater willingness to accept Linux as an alternative to its own Solaris operating system to increase server sales.
