Yes, I coached soccer mainly to pay back for the coaching that my son got. As they get older and winning becomes more important to the parents, it starts to get less fun. I never experienced an unruly crowd of parents, however.

I've never been interested in athletics, or in winning by besting another. In soccer, the teams my son played against were very unevenly coached. The successful teams were coached by experienced men, not people like me. It wasn't much fun watching an uneven match.

I like to compete against myself. That way I always win.
