I suppose they would have liked to. This must be the reason for the ICU. They probably saw it...the entry wound...and the location...and said shit...lets get this guy to the ICU. If it was that close to the heart then they must have know the seriousness of it and the difficulty of doing anything about it in the middle of bum freak texas.

Hence the whole delay thing.

Bush doesn't know Delay or Abramoff very well. An occasional $100,000 dollar donation is run o the mill in Washington these days...these types barely get time on the calendar, much less lip service.

Hospital officials said they knew that Whittington had some birdshot near his heart ever since the Saturday evening shooting. The pellet always was at risk of moving closer since scar tissue had not had time to harden and remain in place, they said.

They said they are not concerned about other birdshot — widely estimated to be between six and 200 pieces — that might still be lodged in Whittington’s body.
