In politics, someone who makes a deliberate effort to be confrontational, unpleasant and exclusionary can hardly complain when one of their own foibles becomes fodder for his many critics. Cheney deliberately pursued a course that has made him far more disliked and distrusted than Bush. That was his choice for what he felt were compelling national security reasons. But in the political realm, you reap what you sow. If Cheney had been on camera outside the hospital on TV an hour after this happened, looking sober and contrite, the whole thing would have been a 2-day story at most. Leno would get 2 jokes out of it Monday night and game over.
