ND Rambi.. in the V.I when I lived there we wore linen dresses and white gloves at night but no hats..

Fascinating. I was at the other end of the mall reading Camus and Sartre and a little beat poetry, carrying signs protesting segregation at the local campus theatre in Austin, TX.

We had a few white gloves women with us in those picket lines but they were also reading Camus and Sartre.

We won't lose the thread, but the atmosphere of Fox News vs. MoveOn/Truthout/etc. goes nowhere, even when we know the sources. It's a sterile, bankrupt debate consisting of individuals dumping on others to feel superior.

I don't need that, and the thread was founded specifically to exclude that. Now I have weeds growing in the garden. Next step?

1966-- Virginia, University of RIchmond Dean's Tea for freshmen. Gloves and hat required. Only dresses allowed in class. Must travel in pairs.
By 1969, we were in bellbottoms and marching against the war.
It was an amazing time to come of age.

Nonetheless, you carry your early upbringing forever, and that Southern belle stuff is as ingrained as my Catholicism.
