I agree. And you see that on both sides here.

And for me the column "WAS CHENEY DRUNK" is heat, and no light.

I'm not so sure about that. It may be irrelevant to the policy but it's not irrelevant to the argument.

I find it very easy to tell if someone its interested in enlightenment or winning.

Likewise, one call tell if someone holds a point of view on wiretapping because of pre-conceived notions about the President or based on some rationale. People who come by their points of view honestly and thoughtfully can and will explain them and will also consider earnest challenges to their rationales. People who come by their points of view via the jerk of the knee or the channeled slogan of their gang are useless to argumentation or enlightenment.
