You can "look at both sides with equal vigor" and still focus on Bush because he is in power. When the other guys are in power, you focus on them. That's balanced, IMO. The administration and the opposition have different roles and I don't find bias in recognizing that by being more focused on the administration. You can be balanced at any given point or balanced over time. The former is concurrent balance and the latter is sequential balance. IMO both approaches are equally balanced.

The party out of power (democrats in this instance) is not without power. We see them exercise it daily. My point is that they should be equally prone to a sterling critic by the thread as is the current administration. To simplify this as much as I know how: The thread does considerable Monday Morning Quarterbacking of the administration and virtually none of the opposing side. This reticence suggests to me that the thread believes the opponents are doing everything correct in their political lives.

I do agree with you that a greater focus on the administration in power is appropriate. However, it is not a justifiable reason to avoid making a critical analysis of the other side's foibles. Aw shucks, just color me stubborn on this aspect of thread discussions. <g>
