"Dick Cheney is a constant reminder of those things the White House would most like to forget: the bullying, the intelligence failures, the inability to pacify Iraq, the misuse of classified information and the breathtaking incompetence that seems to be spread throughout the administration.

Mr. Cheney would do his nation and his president a service by packing his bags and heading back to Wyoming. He's become a joke. But not a funny one. "

I trust that Cheney, in front of so many witnesses, would not drink too much. I trust in the lawyer who got shot to be smart and brave enough to tell his hunting partner to GFy if he showed up drunk for a bird hunt. I trust the lady who runs the ranch to be strong enough in character and not be impressed with a VP hunting her land to stop the hunt if the guy was drunk, or was even suspected of having a few too many beers. These are responsible adults, your dislike for Cheney, notwithstanding, common sense comes into play around guns.

I believe the secret service would have "arranged things" for the hunt not to occur had the veep been "drunk." So, I don't think he was drunk and I was a bit surprised he had a beer at lunch. With all the rabid yapping dogs always at his heels, he needs to be a model citizen. What he did is one step from the worst thing that could occur to a hunter and his partner. Yet all his enemies want to talk about is how long it took him to report it and if he was drunk or not. You don't really care what happened, you just want to sling mud.
