True, but only in an abstract sense. Unless you can quantify and confirm the diversion of resources, and to the point that it weakens their ability to strike elsewhere significantly, then the huge effort and thousands of casualties we are taking aren't producing much real strategic gain.

None of us have the necessary information to prove that proposition either way. So I choose to to accept it at face value.
