I first came into the city on September 10, scarcely more than a week after the hurricane struck. The devastation was tremendous:

Tthings are much, much better, but they are still pretty raw. There are still places without phone service, and debris removal is far from complete.

My part of town is basically undamaged and back to normal, more or less, but the old ease is gone. Lots of mental cases and walking wounded. The city is depopulated, which means that it will need a lot less of everything, including lawyers, so the future is up in the air. Thank God for SI, which has facilitated some very good investments.
