I think for anyone who cares about gun safety, and reporters probably know about such things, since they cover gun issues, we all know that mixing guns and alcohol is a big no no. It shows a real lack of sense. It's true that some gun enthusiasts are complete idiots when it comes to safety, but if they are, it says something about their judgment. I think that is why it matters. The rules are their to prevent accidents- since we all know that accidents go up when drinking is involved. Where there is an accident, culpability falls heavier if the person responsible for the accident was also drinking- because accidents can happen, but we all know that drinking has a bearing on accidents happening, and that's why the rules are there. Breaking the rules means something.

Apparently Cheney didn't have to go with the ambulance:

"It's also out now that cheney refused to go in the ambulance with the guy he shot. He ordered the secret service to take him back to the ranch house where the secret service could keep others from seeing him. Cheney says he didn't go in the ambulance because he wasn't needed there but if that's the truth why didn't he follow the ambulance or go to the hospital later. I think we know the answer to that. They had to give him time to sober up. They needed to keep anyone from seeing him until that time."

If the above is true.
