Just an assumption in the end - if Al Qaeda is a multi-unit structure without a single pool in which it must make tradeoffs, the whole argument becomes skewed. Add in how few terrorists it takes to make an operation work versus an armored US army division and all its support troops. Our adversary is using our size and lack of mobility against us. Since it's the only weapon they have, it is a clever application of limited force, typical of unconventional warfare going back decades.
