Viscerally, I agree with you completely, but often feel when I say that, that others see it as a very negative thing. I find myself trying hard to accept the need for a more global "attitude".
I have never admitted this in public, and hope that you will get to expand on it so we can see the error of our ways.

I think foreign aid is often very inefficient, both in terms of how it is applied in the countries that receive it, and in terms of achieving political/diplomatic benefits for the US, OTOH its a very small part of the US economy or US government spending. (But then if you add up a bunch of these "small" spending items it can make a difference - "A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon your talking real money" :)

I think free trade is the way to go, it not only is good for the economy of the world as a whole, its good for America's economy as well.
