This comment from RBC below confirms my suspicions - that advertising volumes were abnormally weak in Q4. From looking at the Alexa data for the first 6 weeks of 06 it appears GOOG's search growth has resumed. In fact, GOOG growth YTD is 28.7% - much higher than the 18.9% growth in Q4.

Internet momentum has returned after a strangely weak December -- RBC

RBC Capital says that data points from the second annual RBC Boston Internet Dinner suggest that momentum has returned after a strangely weak December month in both the U.S. and Europe. This bodes well for the ad-driven large caps, such as YHOO and GOOG, as well as small caps like MCHX and VCLK. MIVA and TFSM, yet to report earnings, may have seen pronounced weakness in Europe in 4Q, but should be more optimistic about 2006 given a strong start. Firm prefers YHOO and MCHX, both of which are very attractively valued.

I worry about 3rd party. I installed an analog clock, a widget, and my hard drive died within a few days. Could've been a coincidence or could've been a hacker/virus.

Lizzie, can I only install the google toolbar beta for IE? I hate IE and am using Firefox. I wanted to put NYTimes up there on my toolbar which you can do in the google beta but it did it in Internet Explorer. I also want to send pages to folks via gmail, but that was also IE. I use Firefox now and I like the tabs and I know that firefox is "safer" than IE.

Anybody know about this? Thanx.
