why did the Brits let the Zionists emigrate to Palestine?

After WW2 the Brits didn't let them emigrate to Palestine. There was a blockade on the ports, and the Jews had to basically sneak in (read Exodus, it's a decent book).

I was talking after WW I when Zionists began to migrate in large numbers. The Zionists were able to get the quotas lifted in part because a Brit. who was Jewish had invented an improvement to either a weapon or ammunition that helped the Brits beat the Germans during the war. I can't remember the details but Rothchild got involved and got the Brit. gov't to agree to increase the quotas to Palestine. That's why fighting started to break out in the 1920s between the Arabs and Zionists.........the number of Zionists in Palestine had increased dramatically after WW I, causing more friction between the two groups.
