They don't do it to be philanthropic. It's in their self-interest to buy US Treasuries (debt). That way they keep the dollar high and their own currencies low and thereby promote exports to the US. Indeed, if one looks at their burgeoning economies, especially China, the policy has certainly helped them.

Even then, I'm not sure? As far as I'm concerned, US foreign policy has completely lost its way and with the Patriot Act now being supported by a "bipartisan" Congress, so has the remains of American liberty.

I doubt even then? Another 9/11-type event will quickly cure them of any anti-government doubts.
