...I don't see how, at this point in time, any even semi-balanced thread could avoid leaning against Bush.

I challenge any Bush apologist to simply list his accomplishments.

What exactly has he done with his five years in office?

I believe it would be quite a short list and would lean heavily toward sops to the Haves and Have Mores.

That was so well stated...( as usual coming from you..)

It's exactly what I would say had I the talent and my experience with everyone whom I know who voted for the current administration is leaning to the same bias. I am even getting cartoons that are derogatory to the administration for which these people were great supporters...
But as good friends who want to remain that way, politics and religion are not discussed very often.

You know, I don't see how, at this point in time, any even semi-balanced thread could avoid leaning against Bush. I've been watching the enthusiasm for him wane over time in most quarters.

Can't help but agree with this observation. But I would hope, and here's a statement of principle rather than an empirical observation, that threads like this one would always contain more criticism of the powers that be--presidents, congresses, etc.

We might differ on the things we criticize. But, given the structure of American politics, that is the degree to which moneyed interests have such large leverage (campaign finance stuff) and the degree to which the culture of the politicians places electable over governing and the degree to which the fourth estate is no longer staffed by knowledgeable political reporters, it would help, ever so little, if blogs, SI threads, whatever were sources of critique.

God, I'm getting addicted to convoluted sentences. They just seem to roll off the keyboard.
