Surely this will be challenged in the courts under the Canadian Charter of rights. First Nations are allowed to exercise tribal law, why not Muslims? I expect the Ontario Liberal government will have to enact the not withstanding clause in the constitution to take away the legal rights of the Muslim minority. How ironic.

There is no real basis for religious courts in Canada. The Catholics and the Jews lost their courts in this decision as well as the Muslims. There is no way that a religious court (any religion) should be expected to uphold and administer Canadian law.

Agree or not with the tribal law issue... at least they are not proselytizing as Muslims are now.. or fundamentalist Christians...
