ALmost none of the people McCarthy went after were any threat to this country whatsoever. McCarthy was the big threat. Like you, he openely advocated the striping away of civil liberties, wanting the Amerifcan democracy to be turned into some kind of fascist-Soviet police state. McCarthy was an extremely evil and dishonest man who got what he deserved in the end. Any Amerrican who defends McCarthy now might as well be defending Hitler. Morally, there's not much difference, if McCarthy had gotten his way we would be living in some kind of a fascist state. Both McCarthy and the Soviets advocated taking away peoples' rights and putting anyone who disagreed in prison.
