The version I heard was many many rounds from a repeating type rifle. These are very large plants and anything less than a scud couldn't take it down with one round. -ggg-

the worst cactus i encountered around tucson were "teddy bear" chollas - it seemed like you just had to walk next to them to get stabbed. friendsofsaguaro.org

the desert was freaky. here in the east we're used to always having things above us - trees or buildings - out there it's all sky; gave me agoraphobia. and any vultures we see are always soaring up in the sky - in arizona u actually see them feasting on dead cows along the road...and it's hot! - a nice place to visit but i wouldn't want to live there. -jb
