it is the way gov'ts manipulate fiat money that dooms it. The green pieces of paper dont matter, niether do the shiny bits of metal, nor the sea shells used for barter in the islands. Its wether you let EVIL crack dealer type loan officers do bad things or put in regulations and lock them up if they break them. We didnt lock up the evil loan officers and we didn't properly educate the people taking out the loans - so now we have housing problems. Greenspan admits to this with the GSE's. All we need is better watchdogs and a more concerned public - without that - the currency doesn't matter.
