if we weren't fighting them there and devoted a fraction of the same money and resources to keeping them out of here

It would be very interesting to see laid out where that funding could otherwise have been spent and what might have been accomplished with it.

How well stated and my opinion exactly...

As bad as Saddam might have been... he was their Saddam and the trial is proving that there are many Iraqis who do not want anything to happen to Saddam.. They may be insurgents but probably his ruling party (tribe ) The devil you have is better than the devil you may get ...???

I have always been for keeping America safe and for internal defenses... border defenses..weaponry that would have protected us from further attacks... detection.. security checks.. probably some of what is going on now but without the drain on our finances and resources(our young men and women etc.) I too have isolationist feelings... Make us strong at home, take care of our people here make our nation strong from within.

And since I don't think we get a clear picture of what is truly going on in Iraq... (just heard where there were death squads dressed as police murdering another 114 Sunnis .. it's hard to know whether the Iraqi people are better off or worse with us there. Enough of them certainly have died for our protecting them..

It all still remains to be seen doesn't it.
