The simpler version was called the domino theory - and its merit was dubious at best outside of the Iron Curtain. That is another subject that has beaten to death in the literature so we don't have to replay it here.

Needless to say, depicting our adversary as an all-powerful, all-evil juggernaut that will inexorably spread outward is an exaggeration at best. It's the kind of caricature used to justify wars whose other merits seem to be lacking.

But let's face it, the different sides will never agree on this issue, not on this thread or any other. It's all a function of your assumptions, deductions and conclusions.

LOL Actually, I was trying to beg off. I just popped in to raise that small point of logic. I can't find any energy for the bigger question.
