Scorpio Mining samples 10 m of 1,367 g/t Ag in Mexico

2006-03-16 13:57 ET - News Release

Mr. Peter Hawley reports

SCORPIO'S ASSAY RESULTS OF CHANNEL SAMPLING OF 7TH LEVEL DEVELOPMENT DRIFTS INCLUDE 1,367.90 G/T AG, 3.45% ZN, 0.02% CU, 5.28% PB AND 0.40 G/T AU OVER 10 METRES

Scorpio Mining Corp. is providing assay results from initial underground channel sampling of the walls of the seventh-level development drift of the past-producing Nuestra Senora mine located near Cosala, Sinaloa state, Mexico (Table 1).

Peter J. Hawley, president and chief executive officer, reports: "These first results from the seventh level clearly indicate the potential to add significant resources within the previously developed areas of the old Asarco mine. The seventh-level results, when combined with the recently released channel sample results from the eighth level, confirm the downward continuity of the mineralized zone with widths and grades apparently increasing at depth. Based on the results of channel sampling to date on the seventh and eighth levels, as well as our recently announced revised resource estimates of indicated resources of 1,128,000 tonnes grading 202.56 g/t (grams per tonne) silver, 3.47 per cent zinc, 0.91 per cent copper, 1.44 per cent lead and 0.236 g/t gold, and inferred resources of 978,000 tonnes grading 229.47 g/t silver, 4.07 per cent zinc, 0.92 per cent copper, 2.72 per cent lead and 0.347 g/t gold (reference: SEDAR filing -- Feb. 22, 2006), we are accelerating the underground development and resource definition drill programs. The company is confident it will continue to expand the size and increase the tonnage of the Nuestra Senora deposit over the next six months as the development and drill programs advance." >

Adds to level 8!
