Ralph... c'mon... I'm not gonna defend any of that... more folks have died as a result of the perversion of religion than I care to think about... no question... but the onerous terms of the treaties after the WWI were the main cause precipitating WWII... It's that simple... WWI really settled nothing except screwing up the middle east.. more than it was... giving control to Europeans..

This one snippet though from the text you posted is only a half truth... the suppression of learning and science caused by the Christian Dark Ages; The Christians certainly did not initiate the Dark Ages... That is just plain wrong... The monasteries were if anything repositories of knowledge keeping it safe... Unfortunately they (Christian leadership) did use it to their own ends... rarely beneficial to the regular joe...

I'm not defending religion here... but to say that it is the root of all evil is silly... Man's inhumanity to man needs no religion...

<He didn't? He was ushering in the thousand year reign of Christ spoken of in the Bible...>

LOL, poppycock!!

<then no other conclusion is possible except to say that the introduction of Christianity has to count as the single greatest ideological catastrophe to ever strike Europe.>

No other conclusion??? How about, "since we don't know what would have taken the place of organized Christianity if it hadn't been there... 'WE JUST DON'T KNOW'!

Not so sexy as to sell books is it? Number one problem in world today religion?? NO, it's man's inability to just say "I don'tknow"!! LOL!! Amazing how many websites one can dig up to support whatever ones position is these days isn't it? So many opinions... so little "I don't know".

And aladdin's quote is great:

"Man's inhumanity to man needs no religion..."

In a way, "blaming" effects on a specific 'cause' like religion is one big denial of the above statement. "Oh, people didn't do that... "the church did"! Yea, right.
