Bushie Senators Try To Block Investigation Of Illegal Domestic Surveillance By Bush, even though senators vow to meet it 100% secret. White House responsible for lobbying to stop what the People want to know from being known. nytimes.com can you say Soviet Russia? Or fascist Germany? Hoiw dare these Bushies presume to put themselves above the law. Especially when it regards our privacy and civil liberties.

The energy efficiency comparison was to our developed economy peer group. You wanna take Japan out of the comparison? Fine, it doesn't change the point any: our competition manages to compete just fine with nominal prices for gasoline much higher then ours. (As I ALSO pointed out: those are just nominal rates. In truth, the US --- i.e., the US taxpayer --- 'pays' about the same for a gallon of gasoline as Europe does on average... once you factor back into the costs the MILITARY COST we spend each year to defend the oil export routes out of the Middle East. Of course, this means that the EXPENSE is dispersed more widely in the US. Instead of the full-freighted cost being paid by the gasoline consumer [as it is in our developed market peer group], here in the US the TAXPAYER winds up footing much of the bill --- whether he uses gasoline directly, or not.)
