When it's a third party author and the comments aren't directed at anyone in particular, I find commentaries like this amusing, just to remind us how pompous and partisan some writers can be.

Since no one on the right ever offers nuanced definition of leftists as opposed to liberals as opposed to social democrats as opposed to folks who just don't like the incumbent president, the jibes at "leftists" are simply nonsensical.

It's the flip side of the progressives who call anyone who voted Republican a warmongering fascist. So absurd as to be meaningless, except to tell you how detached from analytical integrity the author is.

Postrel was zapping both sides, and while I don't think that sentence really contributed to the piece I don't know if it rises (or should the be descends) to the level of "garbage". Certainly it doesn't pull the whole piece down to the level of trash.

That sentence wasn't the reason why I posted the article and it isn't the main thrust of the article.

What do you think about the ideas of the article?
