re: But at the same time the question does pop up, if its possible to fight a mighty foe with the right hand bound to your back?

Mighty foe? China might be a "mighty foe", maybe Russia. These guys have vast nukes targeted at the US, huge armies and weapons... that's real stuff. China could dump our bonds in a flash, which would certainly do more harm than a fictional Iran nuke fictionally smuggled into the country to fictionally explode in some US city (which would cause Iran to be immediately be blown off the face of the earth, limiting their incentive).

The "mighty foe" has done one, count them one, really significant act against the US on US soil. They "live in caves" and somehow try to communicate with each other, yet we, the great United States of American quake at their every word. We are scared shitless of this ragtag group of what, 100,000 worldwide? When did we become such wimps?

No, your premise is wrong. We are not up against a "mighty foe". Terrorism has been around for a long time... ask the Europeans about the 70's-80's. Our biggest enemy is our reaction to terrorism, not terrorism itself.

re: As you know from the major wars,

This isn't a "major" war, it isn't even a war, it's a marketing program.
