The only way to account for the pattern indicated on the TDPW report is if Cheney was about 10 feet away from Whittington when he shot him.

He said about 10'. After he did a more indepth analysis including ballistic tests which were observed by an engineer and a law enforcement officer, he (they) concluded that it was more like 18'.

Either way 18' is closer to 10' than 90'. His initial guess based on his shooting experience wasn't so bad.

My guess of 20 yards or less was because of my shooting experience and my doubts about the energy required to penetrate three layers of clothing and the rib cage.

I think that it's pretty clear that Cheney lied about the circumstances involved in the shooting. I'm glad that Whittington is out of the hospital too. But he lied when he said that alcohol was not involved, as Cheney already admitted to drinking beer, and The host of the party stated that Cheney mixed himself a cocktail after the shooting. It's clear that alcohol was involved. It's clear that Cheney violated the law by not having the proper game stamp, and further he violated all hunting safety guidelines by swinging his weapon around to a point that he was not sure of what was down range and further did not see his buddy who was festooned in the appropriate orange gear!

He shoots his buddy...pulls the trigger. The only thing that could explain such behavior is either alcohol was involved or Cheney is an idiot...or both.

I'm done with this subject too.

The internal combustion engine is evolving away from burning gasoline now, very rapidly. And the conservatives and their backward looking ways (not including McCain who joined with Kerry to try and get fuel efficiency standards raised in 2001) together with the oil lobby and a few other lobbies for wasted energy absolutely clobbered our auto industry by killint the Kerry-McCain CAFE Standards bill in 2001 which was the wisest thing we could have done. It would have literally saved us more oil than is pumped out of Alaska every year, and more.

While we can expect gasoline engines to be around for 10-20 nmore years, they are definitely on their way out. Just a question of who takes advantage of it to build the auto and energy industries of the future. Right now it's Honda-Toyota in the lead and Exxon-Bush-Cheney bringing up the rear.
