The main attack of a horse is its rear kick. They can kill with it if they make good contact. I had to deal with a mare that tried to kick me several times. I learned to always carry a whip if I went into the pasture with her.

One time I was blocking her out of a stall door. She turned and tracked my movement as I ducked behind the door frame. She made solid contact with the frame at the height of my head. After the owner sold her to a trainer, the mare settled down and is a quite a delight to ride.
