That's the challenge for the rag tag, incoherent jumble of competing voices now known as the Democratic Party.

The GOP does a much better job of using myth and image to frame issues. GWB's cowboy image is no accident ( and incidentally why the RWE's have been so agitated over the Brokeback phenomenom, IMHO.)

The photo opp where they framed GWB's head with those on Mt Rushmore was absolutely masterful.

Building the meme of GOP strength and virility (think GWB's aircraft landing stunt) over the years has resulted in a base that fairly reflexively pulls the lever for the Republican candidate, without ever examining whether or not that candidate represents the average voters' (and the nation's) best interests.

I agree, the Dems have a long way to go to achieve similar benefits from their branding efforts. They had better learn how to construct image, storyline and myth far better than they do now.
