It's the religious thing where their brains fail. The believers identity becomes subsumed in that belief system and the part of their brain which is normally allocated to thinking about things is switched off and they simply go with the flow. A similar process is involved with Stockholm Syndrome and joining the Nazi brownshirts and goose-stepping along chanting Sieg Heil. There is often an argument that Islam is a religion of peace. Which is quite a joke when you see the response to the cartoons. Here is a list of religions. Buddhist, Shinto, Hindu, Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, Judaism, Animism, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Orthodox, Taoist, Sikh, Jainist, Islamic, Parsis, Astrologist and so on for 1000s of brands. Put those in order from most to least violent. You will find some are higher than others. You will find very few that were started by women. There's a clue as to what is going on.
