Sea level rise is an increase in sea level. Multiple complex factors may influence such changes. The sea level has risen more than 120 m since the peak of the last ice age about 18000 years ago. However, only 2-4 m of this increase has occurred in the last 6000 years. From 3000 years ago to the 19th century the long term change was roughly 0.5 meters at a rate of 0.1 to 0.2 mm/yr. Modest 100 to 1000 year fluctuations may have been superimposed on this but are unlikely to have exceeded 0.3 to 0.5 m in amplitude [1]. Since 1850, sea level has risen again at 1 to 2 mm/yr [2] and since 1992 satellite altimetry from TOPEX/Poseidon suggests a rate of about 3 mm/yr [3]. These increased rates may indicate accelerating sea level change as a result of global warming. During the twenty-first century, global warming models predict a sea level rise of ~0.5 meters. Yes, its possible that global warming is on the increase for other reasons besides an increase in the CO2, forgetting for the moment the coincidental nature of the data. What we are sure about is that CO2 is part of the pollutants that Man is pouring into the atmosphere on a regular basis. Therefore, even if CO2 emissions are not behind global warming, why is it a bad thing to want to remove pollutants from the air? After all, they damage plants, animals and the lungs of humans. Its the absurd position taken by global warming's opponents that makes me wonder whether they have a brain at all.
