Talk about a double std. Presumably manymoose "provoked" chinu - though his "provocation" wasn't very provocative. It looks like the thread monitor is sitting there hyper-sensitive waiting for an excuse to ban the purveyors of conservative opinion. That would explain why leftwing extremists get repeated warnings but conservatives don't. The officially approved opinion on that thread is that 911 was no big deal and we shouldn't have reacted so militantly and just continued to handle the terror threat as a minor threat to be dealt with by international law enforcement. Terrorism is claimed to be no serious theat because al Qaida can't invade, seize, and hold US territory or overthrow the US government and replace it with another. The whole war against terror and everything involved in it, like the Patriot Act and the overthrow of the Taliban, etc., is seen as mistaken from the beginning. Counter argument is muted by the bans. In the name of civility, argument is eliminated. When the assertions described above were made on that thread recently, did anyone respond by pointing out that flight 93 had been intended to take out the US capital and thus was, in fact, a serious attempt to partially decapitate the US government? No, because the people who might point out something like that are mostly banned. Did anyone point out that the 911 attack killed more Americans than the Pearl Harbor attack? That it was the most serious attack against the US homeland by a foreign enemy in our history? Did anyone point out that the immediate rounding up of young Arab men after 911, which has since been denounced by liberals as an over-reaction, prevented a planned followup round of attacks on other US cities? Did anyone point out that the supposedly unnecessary war on terror has seemingly prevented any further attacks on the American homeland for four years, despite the repeated threats and promises of al Qaida leaders to attack us again? Has anyone asked whether if a Democrat administration had been in power the last four years with no followup attacks, would that be trumpeted by the press as a major achievement? Lastly, I'll note that posting a rare conservative opinion piece (critical of the Bush administration, of course) or noting briefly that one agrees with the Bush adminstration on a rare issue like nuclear energy development policy or something is not sufficient to counter the overwhelming partisan bias and make the thread in any way shape of form, centrist. So maybe the thread's title and header ought to be changed to reflect the true nature of the thread. That would eliminate the irritating hypocrisy. The title could be something like The Leftwing Extremist thread and the thread header could honestly announce this is a thread for anti-Bush opinion only.
