Maybe it's a marketing ploy. You don't think they are losing money on those houses do you? The only beef I see now is from those who might have paid more for the same house and appear underwater...if this is the case.

They aren't the only company offering discounts, they are all offering "incentives". If you examine the discounts you'll see that they aren't on houses that are already built and they are limited to non-investors, also they require you to use their finance company. Some only apply against upgrades, not the base price. If you ask me it looks like their attempt to flush out the investors. Not a bad strategy at this point in the game.
