all good ideas but it is like that joke about not been able to produce a baby in one month by impregnating nine women.

You need to finalized car designs, build fabs for manufacturing of new car designs, build new refueling stations, build fuel production facilities.

Even if you have all built already it would still take at least 5 to 10 years after that.

One thing is very important is to be realistic

re: BTW, I always identified myself as a Republican before this Bush came to power. This isn't my Republican party.

I do not associate myself with any party but after Clinton vs Bush election I started to develop strong dislike of what current democrats got to offer. It is directly related to the realism point. Clinton was running on National Health care program which was completely unrealistic. After he won he wasted even more money by letting Hillary run it.

I do not trust any politicians but in comparison republicans are far better qualified to run the country then democrats. That does not mean that I do not have problems with republicans and specifically current administration.

Bush have done few things that I agreed with and few things that I did not agree with. And considering that he is running the country in fairly difficult times I think he is doing decent job.

"A plug-in hybrid converted Prius, can get as much as 30-35 miles on battery recharged from your outlet, before it switches back to the regular hybrid function. Most people drive less than that on any given day. Estimates are that increases avg mpg to anywhere from 75 to 100 mpg."

The electricity used to recharge the car is generated somewhere. Unless it's generated at a nuke plant or a windmill, it's generated by burning something, oil, gas or coal. Depending on HOW it's generated, it could actually cause MORE pollution than burning the equivalent in gasoline (cars are pretty "clean" compared to some power plants).

It's also less efficient, because of electrical transmission and conversion losses.

So, it's not as magical as your thinking, and the mpg figures you give are not "real". For electric or gas/electric rechargable hybrid cars, we'll need to come up with some new metric of their efficiency other than "MPG" - we KNOW the energy isn't free. My bicycle gets an infinite mpg, but I can testify that it doesn't pedal itself!

With what battery technology? Some conversions use LiIons. LiIons have great power density, but they lose capacity every time they get discharged. The Li anode oxidizes when in a discharged state, and can't recover the lost capacity. And they ain't cheap.
