There is reaching across the aisle, and then there is leaping across the aisle, and basically abandoning the major interests of your party to so leap. I think when you turn your back on issues people in a party consider major, it's more than a reach.

I remember the time when politicians who could reach across the aisle were well regarded. I think it was considered statesmanship.

I am all for reaching across the aisle, but it must go both ways.

Otherwise, it becomes lapdogism.
