Maybe not so. Maybe people just think they need to buy a lot of stuff they don't need. Computer upgrade. Flat Screen. New Car. Hot tub. Third car. Europe vacation. They borrow to live above their means not to buy groceries and pay for heat....

My sister NEEDS all of those things, she is an emotional creature and if she doesn't get her NEEDS she is not happy - then hubby's sex gets cut off - boss and employees under her have much anguish - even random strangers in the street may experience her hell - the fury of a woman scorned.

Remember what the founding fathers said - life, liberty, happiness right? Oops no they never PROMISED you HAPPINESS sister - they said the PURSUIT of it - my sister got confused - she didnt understand what was promised was a life like a rat on a treadmill TRYING to get to the cheese - she thinks she was promised the cheese. I am not gonna be the one to tell her she can't have the cheese and only a treadmill - are you? She will chop your head off if you tell her that.

Exactly they spend and borrow too much because they are too confident that the economy is good and will stay good. A lot of this goes back to GST and the declining standard of living in the future that is coming for many American's.
