S2,

I figured out what's wrong with Olympic Men's hockey and the US Team.

It is a team sport - teams practice together and committ serious time for those practices in advance of a global venue like the Olympics. As the pool has expanded for hockey players, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Europe and Canada, there are many more great players. To think that some US pros can form what essentially is a pick-up team and win is total arrogance.

I honestly would rather see a bunch of college kids go at it representing the US. Even if we didn't medal against against other teams, I really wouldn't care. The Olympic Hockey Committee should re-think the standards for entry. This is the Olympics, not some temporary diversion for the pros.

(I should really start a sports curmudgeon column!)
