Well, let's look at something specifically. The FDA is inefficient because it now kowtows to the very people it's supposed to be regulating.

That's a problem of capitalism run amuck in the political system. If capitalism was kicked out of the system, the FDA would be able to regulate drugs properly.

Is it going to be perfect? Nope, but why shouldn't it regulate drugs so that a 35 MG tablet actually has 35 MG in it and not 350 MG?

Not everyone is always working for money. That's a real failing of the 'capitalism is great' theory. People do things even when they're not paid very well or at all. People who are paid gargantuan sums of money often do things very badly. See: Enron, Worldcom, etc.

--------- The medicare bill is what pays for medicare. Sure there's no 'real' reason in the minds of many that anyone should finance meds or medical service for seniors. For that matter, many people feel that there's no need to finance corporations (say oil for $8 b in corporate welfare) or pay the President or the Congress for their staffs and their offices and AFOne.

There's no 'real' reason to pay for anything collectively including defense, infrastructure, government, law enforcement or anything else. We could choose to be Afghanistan and live by the rule of the gun.

Amazingly, most of us have decided that the social net is a good thing. It makes for a better life for everyone. If people don't like it, they can emigrate, vote it down or simply earn so little that they pay no taxes and are therefore not paying welfare. There are many rational and irrational choices.

I have no problem getting rid of the AMA. I would say that half the doctors I've met are quacks, incompetents and nincompoops. Ditto the lawyers. I've liked most of my dentists though LOL.

The AMA is a monopolistic organization that not only reduces the number of doctors available but also prevents the idiots from getting kicked out of the profession. It's a menace.
