It's not a good idea or a bad idea. But denying economic trade has to be defined with objective criterion. Laws and institutions are put in place to define a beneficial compromise of legal process for all.

All objections I have heard are based on ignorance of just about every aspect of port security combined with fear of a specific group based upon presumptive guilt. Conduct based upon such is the worse idea I can think of.

What you take as ad hominem I call my direct analysis of the thinking that underlies the arguments I am reading. The thinking I see may be direct or implied.

foreign ownership of our ports is not the deal. foreign operation of our ports is also not the deal.

Actually, I am with you at this point. If there is a case to be made for UAE management, the Bush folks have not made it. Chertoff's explanation was totally lame. This may be fine and dandy...but someone needs to cogently explain why in sufficient detail.....
