It's not a good idea or a bad idea. But denying economic trade has to be defined with objective criterion. Laws and institutions are put in place to define a beneficial compromise of legal process for all. All objections I have heard are based on ignorance of just about every aspect of port security combined with fear of a specific group based upon presumptive guilt. Conduct based upon such is the worse idea I can think of. What you take as ad hominem I call my direct analysis of the thinking that underlies the arguments I am reading. The thinking I see may be direct or implied. foreign ownership of our ports is not the deal. foreign operation of our ports is also not the deal.
