Just because the ibber Dems jumped ugly on this does not sem to be a good reason to stop the deal. IMO, the Republicans just had to cove their butts, so they let the libbers run over them........again........ NO ONE has shown me yet WHY this deal has to be stopped. How about the UK...there ae MANY terrorist cells there. Do we take the contrats away from them too? Sounds like we are in for some Nationalationism?

I think you are right. Public sentiment is not always rational. Even if they have vetted it, they are stuck in the position of asking the public to trust them. Add that to the fact that port security is not very complete. For example only about 5% of containers are searched, from what I hear.
