"Frankly, I think the reason why so little is happening is because there is no money.......I think the Feds are tapped out."

Yeah. But there is money for bridges to nowhere and 15,000 earmarked projects around the country. There is money for tax cuts, no bid contracts and congressmen like Cunningham have a price list of expected kickbacks for the value of the contract he will steer the way of a company.

The big problem is that DHS and FEMA were busy planning for terrorist attacks and not natural disasters. They even planned for terrorist attacks during a hurricane and focussed on the attack and not the hurricane. They ran off everyone with a background in managing the aftermath of a hurricane, replacing them with people like George Deutsch. So when not only one, but two good-sized hurricanes slammed into the Gulf, they were caught unprepared. Not only were they unprepared, they no longer had the people they need to cope. So they aren't coping, they are hiding.

There will be people living in tents for years to come. If a major quake hits the West Coast, same thing. They just aren't capable of dealing with something large scale. Not only that, they aren't capable of taking the steps to pick up the pieces in the aftermath. The Gulf Coast is the wakeup call. But it looks as if most people are perfectly content to hit the 'snooze' button and roll over and go back to sleep...
